Roof cleaning

algaeroof.jpg

Roof algae, also called Gloecapsa Magma. This type of algae feeds on the limestone granules of the roofing shingle. Roof cleaning will take care of this and bring the roof back to its original color.

Roof moss. Roof moss has roots. These roots penetrate through the edges of the shingles and break the water tight barrier of the shingle. This allows moisture to creep down into the wood underlayment of the roof. Rot and decay develops shortly after. Cleaning involves a gentle sweeping of the loose moss followed up with treatment of the roots allowing them to decay and wash away with time.

Roof Lichen.jpg

Lichens hold moisture and there roots grow directly into the shingles. This fungus is the most stubborn of the roof invaders. Damage from roof Lichens will cause shingles to bend, warp and separate. When properly treated it will take 4 to 12 weeks to completely go away. Which will depend on the amount of moisture and sunlight the roof receives.

This is a step during the roof cleaning process. First, the heavy moss is gently swept from the roof. Then comes the treatment on the roots. From here on out, we let mother nature do her work.
